| Eclipsing Infrared Binary Star observed while documenting HC-1I noticed this large deep red (H-alpha) star that turned out to be V349 GEM (C, Mira). When comparing my H-alpha images with my OxyIII images I noticed the star disappeared from view. This is due to its very low energy and absence of Oxygen. Move your mouse back and forth over the image and watch the star blink in and out. (Below ) Howell-Crisp 1 (HoCr 1) Imaged by Michael Howell - Synthetic tricolor image (15)15min H-alpha (35)15min OXYIII, R = Ha, G = OXYIII, B = Ha+OxyIII, bin 1x1 ST-10XME on NP-127 at 2.12 arc.sec./pixel, 11/20/2006. 12.5 hours total exposure. Look in upper right to see a bright pink spot that is the eclipsing binary.
